MX at the DeX is an indoor winter motocross series held at the Dakota Events Complex on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds in Huron. Racing runs inside a 150,000 square foot building, which means full motocross competition in the middle of a South Dakota winter, on dirt hauled in and shaped for the event. The series runs a handful of events each winter.

Racing Indoors When Nothing Else Runs

Outdoor motocross across the Dakotas shuts down by late fall and does not reopen until spring. That leaves riders with five or six months and nowhere to race.

MX at the DeX exists to fill that gap. The DEX is a large modern building on the state fairgrounds, and the series brings in dirt and builds a supercross style track inside it. Riders who would otherwise be off the bike until April get several race weekends through the winter, indoors and out of the weather.

The indoor format also changes the racing. A supercross style track inside a building is tighter and more technical than an outdoor motocross course, with rhythm sections and shorter straights, which develops a different skill set from open terrain riding.

The series states its aim plainly: deliver elite, professional level indoor motocross events that celebrate hard work, perseverance and community pride. The motto is Faith, Family, Finish Lines.

Getting There
